Privacy Policy

Movie Nights Club ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from the identity provider. We use this to create and identify your account.

App usage data. We store information you create within the app, including:

• Groups you create or join
• Movies and TV shows you add to watchlists
• Votes in movie night polls
• Reviews, ratings, and chat messages
• Watch status (want to watch, watching, watched)
• Your username, friends, and group join requests
• People you block, and reports you submit about content or people (including a copy of the reported content, kept for review)
• Photos you upload for your profile or a group
• Your country and the streaming services you choose, used to show where a title is available

Notification token. If you allow notifications, we store a push notification token for your device, along with its platform and language, so we can send you notifications.

We do not collect your location, contacts, advertising ID, or crash and analytics data.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide core app functionality (groups, watchlists, polls, chat)
• To display your profile to other group members
• To send notifications about group activity (polls, new messages)
• To improve the app, fix bugs, and prevent abuse

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.

3. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase — Database, authentication, and real-time features. Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. Supabase Privacy Policy
• Google Sign-In — Authentication. Google receives information about the sign-in request. Google Privacy Policy
• Apple Sign In — Authentication. Apple may provide a relay email address to protect your real email. Apple Privacy Policy
• TMDB (The Movie Database) — Movie and TV show metadata (titles, posters, descriptions). We do not share your personal data with TMDB. TMDB Privacy Policy
• Streaming Availability (Movie of the Night) — Shows which streaming services carry a title. We send only the title and a country code, never your personal data.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — Delivers push notifications. Google receives your device's notification token and the notification text, which can include the start of a chat message. Firebase Privacy
• YouTube — Trailers and videos play in an embedded YouTube player (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube receives your IP address when a video loads. Google Privacy Policy

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase-managed PostgreSQL databases with row-level security (RLS) enabled. All data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Access to your group data is restricted to group members.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete Account), or follow the steps on our account deletion page. Deletion is immediate: your account, profile and profile photo, watchlists, ratings and reviews, friends, blocks, group memberships, votes, awards, and notification tokens are deleted. Groups stay with their other members (ownership passes to another member), and your messages, shared-list additions, polls, nominations, group photos, and activity entries stay visible to them without your name attached. Email us to have any of that removed and we will do so within 30 days. The account deletion page has the full details.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format

7. Children's Privacy

Movie Nights Club is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
